Promoting your web pages to the top of the major search engines can either make or break a site
on the Internet in its infancy. When you see your competition at the top of every search term
that pertains to your site - and you know that your site looks better and has much more relevant
information than theirs - you ask yourself, "what is wrong with my site or what is wrong
with the search engines?"
"Can't they see my site looks nicer and we have more information and better pricing than
our competition?" The answer is no, they can't see.
For the most part no human employed by the search engines ever comes around to look at your site.
A computer program, called a spider, bot or robot looks at the TEXT
on your site. Spiders could not care less about your graphics because they
cannot see them. These spiders are set up with a complex set of algorithms (the way they are
told to look at a page). The engineers that work for the individual search engines set these
algorithms. They are all different but there are some common factors. These algorithms are trade
secrets and they are very difficult to get a grasp of. It takes a lot of time, studying and
effort to even get a basic idea of what each search engine spider is looking for.
Now for the good part, as soon as you think you have a handle on the algorithms for a particular
spider, they change them and you have to start all over again.
This is not the type of thing that the average person has the time or the knowledge to do.
We do this for a living and we are
willing to give away some tips that we have found that works on our Search Engine Ranking pages.
These tips will help the average site to get better rankings and we will be changing and updating
them as the algorithms change.
We wish everyone the best of luck in their endeavors in the fast paced and ever changing
cyberspace world of the Internet.
